Odsonne Edouard, Jordan Ayew and Christian Benteke will likely be forced to wait their turn on the bench, with Mateta vying to lead the line against the Citizens. As for City, Guardiola will welcome Kyle Walker back from a Champions League suspension with open arms, with Joao Cancelo’s illness rendering him doubtful for the contest. There is some optimism over the fitness of Cole Palmer and Nathan Ake for Monday’s game, but Ruben Dias remains out of contention as John Stones and Aymeric Laporte continue at centre-back. After making some expected changes in midweek, Guardiola is sure to reintroduce the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne to the first XI this week.

Man City owe Crystal Palace one after the Londoners claimed all 3pts at the Etihad when these two sides met back in October. The Eagles are going well under Vieria and currently sit 10th in the Premier League table but can they secure the domestic double against Guardiola’s men on Monday night? Man City have won four of their last six encounters with Crystal Palace and have kept clean sheets in each of their last three victories against the Eagles. Palace might have won at the Etihad early in the campaign but we’re backing City to win and keep a clean sheet on Monday night. Palace have only lost one of their last six matches in all competitions but the host shave failed to score in three of their last six outings. Man City have kept four clean sheets in their last six attempts and have won four games during that period.

Mahrez joint-top scores for Man City in the Premier League this season with 10-goals and we’re backing the Algerian international to find the back of the net against Crystal Palace on Monday night. The inside-forward has scored 8-goals in his last nine appearances for Man City in all competitions and although he was on the bench in midweek, we fully expect Mahrez to be back in the starting lineup on Monday. Crystal Palace would have been expecting a very tough game away at Wolves last time out but ended up coming away with comfortable 3pts in the end. Mateta put the visitors in front in the 18th-minute and a penalty from Zaha made it 2-0 in the 34th-minute. Wolves were more solid in the second forty-five but didn’t offer enough going forward and Palace cruised to the 3pts.

Man City were in action in midweek at home to Sporting in the Champions League. Guardiola made a number of changes to the starting eleven as Man city were already 5-0 up following the 1st leg and that certainly had an effect on the home sides’ rythem. The game ended up being a goalless draw, not that the hosts will be bothered as they are safely into the next round and looked strong at the back once again.

Crystal Palace are a club on the bounce, as Patrick Vieira seems to have manoeuvred around their worst patch of form this season. After enduring a difficult run since the start of 2022 in the league, during which they managed a solitary victory, the team secured a morale-boosting win over Wolves last time out.

Manchester City will be aiming to open up a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League table when Crystal Palace welcome them to Selhurst Park for Monday’s Premier League clash. The Eagles enter the contest on the back of a 2-0 success at Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Pep Guardiola’s men progressed past Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League. Most of the headlines at Molineux last weekend centred around Bruno Lage’s impassioned rant after yet another Wolverhampton Wanderers defeat, but take nothing away from the intent and enthusiasm displayed by Crystal Palace in an eye-catching win over the top-four outsiders.

Four days after seeing off Stoke City in the FA Cup, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Wilfried Zaha were both on target for Patrick Vieira’s side before the half-time whistle to kill the game off in the opening 45, with a top-half finish still not beyond the realm of possibility. Vieira’s side occupy 11th spot in the table at the time of writing, although a point for Leicester City at Arsenal on Sunday would see the Eagles drop down a place, and they are two points behind 10th-placed Southampton before Sunday’s fixtures commence. A top-half standing would no doubt constitute a successful debut season for Vieira, whose side have now won three of their last four in all competitions, but not since June 2020 have the capital side managed to string a winning streak of three or more games together.

On a more pessimistic note, Palace have only managed to glean one point from the last 12 on offer at Selhurst Park in the Premier League – conceding an average of two goals per game in that stretch – and City have all the motivation that they need to return to winning ways. Very few would have chosen to watch an inconsequential second leg between Manchester City and Sporting Lisbon while Real Madrid were busy producing a storming comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, and even some of the Etihad home crowd may have felt the same way on Wednesday night.

Indeed, eight of City’s last nine away matches in all competitions have ended in victory – winning each of their last four on the road without conceding a single goal – and Guardiola’s men have only let in eight league goals on rival turf all season. Palace shocked the English footballing landscape with a 2-0 win over the champions at the Etihad back in October, but City have won six and drawn one of their last seven meetings with the Eagles at Selhurst Park – shipping a mere two goals in the process.

Palace defender Nathan Ferguson is still a couple of weeks away from coming back from his thigh issue, while James McArthur’s knock is set to keep him sidelined this weekend. Joel Ward’s groin problem will need checking over before Monday, but Vieira has no fresh concerns to deal with and is sure to consider sending an unchanged XI out onto the field.

Having gone four games without defeat in all competitions, Crystal Palace will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run. On Monday, the Eagles will be looking to do an unlikely double over title favourites Manchester City. Palace’s main goal this season remains finishing in the upper half of the table, but there are plenty of other clubs in the race for a top-ten finish.

However, Manchester City are standing in Palace’s way, who will have many thoughts coming into this crunch clash. While the memories of the reverse fixture will cross Pep Guardiola’s mind, revenge will be the last thing the manager will be thinking about. The Catalan tactician will be aiming to restore Manchester City’s six-point lead at the top of the table after Liverpool reduced it to three with their win against Brighton on Saturday.

Manchester City come into this game having progressed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a goalless draw against Sporting CP at the Etihad. Before that, the reigning champions had dispatched Manchester United with ease in the Premier League in the derby. They will be hoping for a similar performance against the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

Patrick Vieira will have Nathan Ferguson and James McArthur missing from action against Manchester City. Joel Ward is also a big doubt, although he is getting close to a return. The full-back will be assessed before the game, although the manager might prefer to keep Nathaniel Clyne at right-back.

Vieira will likely go with an unchanged lineup from the last game against Wolves. There is no reason to make any alterations considering the current side have been performing well and should counter the threat of Manchester City.

Vieira will stick to his preferred 4-3-3 formation to replicate Manchester City’s shape with Jeffrey Schlupp and Conor Gallagher on either side of Cheikhou Kouyate in the middle of the park.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been in good form of late, and the striker will keep the likes of Christian Benteke, Odsonne Edouard and Jordan Ayew on the bench again. Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise will pose a threat from either flank as Crystal Palace looks to do the double over their opponents.
