Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea but have a game in hand over the Blues and will be looking to capitalise on any slip ups from their fellow top-four chasers. Southampton beat Liverpool at the start of the year, sending them on their way spiralling down the table, and will be looking to do the double over the Reds to secure their spot in the Premier League.
Liverpool haven’t played for two weeks and have no fresh injury concerns but will remain without Jordan Henderson and the other long-term absentees. Takumi Minamino is ineligible to face his parent club, joining the likes of Danny Ings, Oriol Romeu and Ryan Bertrand on the sidelines for Southampton. Jannick Vestergaard’s red card against Leicester has been overturned.
Salah has scored three goals in his past four Premier League matches, netting against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United with only Leeds United keeping him out (though he only played 19 minutes at Elland Road). That goal against Newcastle means Salah has hit the 20 mark in three of his four Premier League seasons since returning with Liverpool in 2017/18, bettering his record of 2019/20 when he managed just 19.
In seven Premier League matches against Southampton for Liverpool, Salah has scored seven goals, only failing to find the net twice including at St Mary’s in January. But Salah has never failed to score against Southampton over both games of a Premier League season and he has an excellent record at Anfield. The Egyptian has scored five of his seven goals against Southampton at home, including a brace on two occasions in comfortable Liverpool victories.
